At our last visit to Kenya in January 2020 our local partners presented us with an idea to build a much-needed public washrooms building (showers and latrines) on the Kibera slum.
Thanks to a huge amount of hard work by our local partners in exploring options plus generous UK donations, our local committee was able to buy a suitable piece of land in November 2020 and secure it with fencing to keep it safe until the building work could begin.
Since acquiring the land, progress has not been easy, with a number of local and cultural challenges to overcome, but we're delighted to report another significant milestone. This week the foundations have been dug and the first of the building materials (all of which need to be carried across the slum by hand) have arrived on site.
