For the past few months, we have been running weekly training sessions for new and aspiring small business entrepreneurs. Successful small businesses are a key element in raising living standards in Kibera and our video sessions followed by exercises, discussion, and banter on a WhatsApp group are helping small business owners to provide improve their standard of living.
In the past couple of weeks, we've seen a few of the business training course participants launching their fledgling small enterprises; t-shirts, shoes, cooked eggs, and smokies (cooked sausages) are on the list, and we wish them success.
Having come to the end of our initial training course, the participants are keen to continue with new topics and also continue to support each other through their WhatsApp group. In addition to the training, we're helping to build a local self-help community; a model that we've already seen to be successful in the area (see our posts on the Umoja group).
Small steps, but we're beginning to see the fruit.
